Couples & Family Therapy & Services

in Fredericksburg, Virginia — and Online Across Virginia

For couples who want to stop having the same fight.

For families who want to find their way back to each other.

Maybe you and your partner are stuck in a cycle you can't seem to break — the same argument, the same silence, the same distance that keeps growing no matter how hard you try.

Maybe your family is in crisis — a teenager who has completely shut down, a relationship that has never recovered from something that happened, a home that feels less like safety and more like a battlefield.

Maybe you're a veteran or first responder and the tools that kept you safe at work are now creating distance in the relationship you care most about.

Or maybe you just know something needs to change — and you're finally ready to do something about it.

We Thrive Together was built for exactly this moment. We specialize in couples therapy, marriage counseling, couples contemplating divorce counseling, family therapy, and structured groups for teens and adults — in person in Fredericksburg, Virginia and online across the state.

Connection shapes everything.

When relationships feel strained — at home, in parenting, or within yourself — everything feels heavier. Here's how we help.

Our Services

Couples Counseling/Marital Therapy

Are you longing to feel close again — but stuck in the same painful cycle?

Most couples don't fall apart dramatically. They drift — the same argument on repeat, the silence that grows a little longer each time, the distance that neither of you planned for and neither of you knows how to close.

Using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), we help couples:

  • Break pursue-withdraw patterns

  • Rebuild trust and emotional safety

  • Strengthen communication

  • Restore closeness and intimacy

  • Rediscover the friendship underneath the conflict

This is structured, research-based couples therapy focused on lasting change — not just better arguments but a genuinely different way of reaching for each other.

We offer specialized support for affair recovery, high conflict couples, considering divorce counseling, premarital counseling, & patterns or military and first responder stress.

Family Therapy

Every family hits seasons that test them. We help families move through those seasons without losing each other in the process.

When parenting feels like a constant negotiation, when a teenager has shut down, or when blending a family is harder than anyone told you it would be — the whole household feels it. And when one relationship in the family shifts, everything else shifts with it.

We work with the whole family system — helping everyone feel heard, understood, and connected again.

We help families:

  • Slow reactive cycles

  • Strengthen attachment bonds

  • Improve communication

  • Create a more secure foundation at home

  • repair ruptures and rebuild trust

We also offer dedicated counseling for couples navigating the relational impact of raising kids through hard seasons.

Why We Thrive Together?

What makes us different is simple — specialization.

Every therapist at We Thrive Together holds post-graduate specialty training in the work they do.

Beth Collins brings advanced training in EFT, affair recovery, discernment counseling, working with highly conflicted couples, and Relational Life Therapy for narcissistic relationship patterns — training that represents years of focused investment in the most complex relational work there is..

Chris Biddix is a retired Navy veteran with 20 years of service. That combination of lived military experience and clinical EFT and EMDR training is rare — and it changes everything about how this work feels for the couples who need it most.

Beverly Lemmons Beverly Lemmons brings EFT and EFFT training combined with years of school social work, psychiatric experience, and parenting support across developmental stages. She understands the systems families navigate — diagnoses, IEPs, school-based mental health — and what that weight does to the relationship between partners. Her specialty in Parenting as Partners fills a gap that most practices don't address — a dedicated space for couples navigating the relational impact of raising children through difficulty.

We are a private-pay relational therapy practice. We made that choice deliberately — because deep relational work requires flexibility, time, and freedom from the constraints of insurance-driven care. Insurance-based individual therapy is offered separately through our sister practice, Thrive Counseling for Healing and Connection.

EFCT

Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) is a structured, evidence-based approach that helps couples move from disconnection and distress to deeper emotional intimacy. Grounded in attachment theory and supported by decades of research, EFCT identifies the negative patterns that keep partners stuck and helps them create new cycles of connection, responsiveness, and trust. Research shows that 70 to 75 percent of couples move from distress to recovery — and approximately 90 percent show significant improvement.

EFFT

Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) is an evidence-based model designed to repair and strengthen relationships between family members. Rooted in attachment science, EFFT helps families identify reactive patterns, reduce conflict, and create new ways of engaging that foster safety, connection, and trust. It offers a structured yet flexible approach to healing emotional injuries and restoring balance within the family system.
