Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about getting started, our therapists, fees, and how therapy works at We Thrive Together. If you don't find your answer here reach out — we're happy to help.

Getting Started

  • The first step is reaching out through our Contact page. Tell us a little about what you're looking for — whether that's couples therapy, family therapy, a group, or a workshop. Our team will follow up within one business day to discuss next steps, answer any questions, and match you with the right therapist or program. You don't need to have everything figured out to reach out. That's our job.

  • We Thrive Together is for couples, families, and individuals who want to strengthen their most important relationships. We work with couples at any stage — dating, engaged, married, or long-term committed. We work with families navigating conflict, distance, or transition. We offer groups and workshops for teens, adults, men, and women. If connection matters to you — you belong here.

  • Not equally. Many couples begin therapy with one partner more willing than the other. We don't require both partners to feel fully ready — we just ask that both are willing to try. Often the most reluctant partner becomes the most invested once they feel safe in the process. If your partner is hesitant reach out anyway — we can talk through how to approach the conversation.

  • Yes. If you are seeking services for a child or teen — including our Girls Circle groups, D&D group, or ASSET LGBTQ+ group — please include your child's name, age, and your relationship as the legal guardian when you reach out. We'll guide you through the appropriate next steps.

  • We aim to respond to all inquiries within one business day. Once we connect and confirm the right fit, most clients are scheduled within one to two weeks. For groups and workshops availability depends on current enrollment — reach out early to reserve your spot.

Our Therapists and Fees

  • Couples therapy is provided by three therapists — Beth Collins, LCSW CTT, Beverly Lemmons, LCSW, and Chris Biddix, LPC. Each brings EFT training and a trauma-informed approach. The difference between them is experience level and specialized training — which is reflected in the fee structure. Not sure who is the right fit? Reach out and we'll help guide you.

  • Beth brings over 25 years of clinical experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Trauma Therapist, with focused and advanced post-graduate training in Emotionally Focused Therapy. Her couples therapy specialized training includes:

Insurance & Payment

  • We Thrive Together is a private pay practice and does not bill insurance directly. Couples and family therapy sessions are not typically covered by insurance. However we can provide a superbill — a detailed receipt — after each session that you may submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Reimbursement varies by plan and we encourage you to contact your provider to understand your out-of-network benefits before scheduling.

  • No. We Thrive Together has officially opted out of Medicare. This means we cannot submit claims or provide superbills for Medicare recipients even if services are paid out of pocket. If you are a Medicare recipient we can help connect you with providers who do accept Medicare.

  • No. These services are not considered medically necessary treatment by insurance companies and are not eligible for reimbursement or superbills. This includes all group programs, Hold Me Tight workshops, and any other workshops.

  • We made a deliberate choice to operate as a private pay practice — and we want to be honest about why.

Insurance systems are built around individual diagnosis and symptom checklists. Relational work is different. Couples and family therapy focuses on strengthening connection, repairing trust, and shifting painful patterns — goals that don't fit neatly into a diagnostic billing model. Using insurance also means assigning a mental health diagnosis to one partner or family member, which can unintentionally place the "problem" on one person rather than honoring the relationship system as a whole.

By operating outside insurance we can protect your privacy, offer extended and flexible sessions, focus on depth over speed, and sustain the advanced clinical training that gold-standard relational therapy requires.

We know this is a real financial consideration and we don't take that lightly. Superbills are available for couples and family therapy sessions for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

  • Yes — and this is one of the real advantages of online family therapy. Family members do not need to travel together or even live in the same city to participate. We can bring your family into the same virtual room from anywhere in Virginia, making it easier to include everyone who matters in the process.

On-line vs. In-person

  • Yes. We offer both in-person sessions in Fredericksburg, Virginia and secure online sessions via encrypted video conferencing. You can choose based on your preference and schedule. You can also switch between the two — if you have an in-person appointment scheduled and need to move to virtual that week, you can do so without the late cancellation policy applying.

  • Yes. Research consistently shows that online therapy is as effective as in-person therapy for couples and family work. Many clients prefer the convenience and privacy of meeting from their own space. The therapeutic relationship — which is the most important factor in outcomes — translates fully to online sessions.

  • All family members participating in online sessions must be physically located in Virginia at the time of the session. This is a licensure requirement — our therapists are licensed to provide therapy to clients in Virginia only. If all family members are in Virginia — even if in different locations — they can each join from wherever they are. If any family member is outside Virginia at the time of the session that session will need to be rescheduled.
